The martensitic 420 Stainless Steel Sheet material is known for offering good resistance to corrosion. It is quite similar to the 410 grade stainless steel, but with increased strength and hardness. The SS 420 Sheet material can retain its magnetic properties, both in annealed and hardened conditions. The maximum corrosion resisting capabilities of this one is attained only when it is fully hardened. The AISI 420 SS Sheet material can be hardened by cold working as well as heat treating. It can be heat treated to a hardness of minimum HRC 51.
The SUS 420 Sheet material is one of the strongest grades available. When annealed, it has a tensile strength of around 586 MPa. But when hardened and stress relieved, its tensile strength jumps to around 1586 MPa. The UNS S42000 Sheets material can effectively resist corrosion in both acidic and alkaline substances. However, the downside of this material is that they do not handle flexing and impact quite well.
The Hot Rolled 420 Stainless Steel Sheet meets the minimum requirements of chromium by allowable exception to be considered as a food grade. Thus, it is a common grade of food-safe stainless steel in the category.
The key applications of Din 1.4021 Sheet is in making different components such as shear blade, needle valve, surgical equipment, and so on. Being a food-safe grade, it is also used for making cutlery. The Cold Rolled 420 stainless steel sheet shows enhanced corrosion resistance properties in fully hardened or hardened, and stress relieved conditions. This property is quite similar to that of the 410 grade. It has a high carbon content which leads to the formation of chromium carbide precipitate- this helps in increasing its wear resistance and edge retention, that is when they are hardened. The alloy can be effectively used upto the temperature of 427 degrees C, after that there is a change in their properties, like rapid softening and reduced resistance to corrosion.
The alloy 420 is available in various dimensions, shapes and sizes, and it can be customized according to the client requirements. Their surface finishes are also customizable and are done as per the requirements. For example, the 2B Finish 420 Grade Stainless Steel Sheet increases the corrosion resistance power of the sheet, whereas the Mirror finished stainless steel 420 sheet comes with an improved appearance.

Grade 420 stainless steel is a high-carbon steel with a minimum chromium content of 12%. Like any other stainless steel, grade 420 can also be hardened through heat treatment. It offers good ductility in its annealed state and excellent corrosion resistance properties when the metal is polished, surface grounded or hardened. This grade has the highest hardness - 50HRC - among all the stainless steel grades with 12% chromium.
